It seems like the positive training methods only get you so far. It's a great method to communicate with the dog - have him think and problem solve. But in presence of distractions and other temptations, it doesn't necessarily instill reliable obedience.

Please suggest methods, advice, books or courses. Thanks!

I read that you're not supposed to punish the puppy if she goes inside, but my mom seems to think differently. What do you do if the puppy goes in the house? Any other housebreaking tips would be appreciated, thanks!

Currently trying to teach my puppy to ring a bell hanging by the door, to alert us she needs to go out to potty. Only problem is she seems to be afraid of the bell. I am using a fog style bell (traditional) rather than a sleigh type bell. Which is a little louder. For those of you who have bell trained your puppies, is this typical at first? Will she just get passed it? What type of bell did you use? Surely, that shouldn't matter, should it?

Our lab puppy is seven weeks old. I know that's a week or two so shy of when you are supposed to take home puppies, but this was an exception....I really want to start crate training her but have read she is still too little. So if that's the case, and she is still too young, what am I supposed to do mean time?

Shimajiro is a very popular education program in Japan. The titular character is a young cartoon tiger. The show teaches kids about manners, vocabulary, shapes, household chores and even toilet training. This is the 2009 version of the toilet training segment with subtitle goodness! (Sorry if I took some liberties, but I just couldn't help myself!) Only the Japanese can come up with something as useful and hilarious as this and still make it work!
