I recently brought home a four month old Shih Tzu puppy from a pet store. I am having a very difficult time housebreaking her because she has been allowed to eliminate in her crate for so long. She refuses to eliminate outside but goes within minutes of coming in regardless of the amount of time spent in the yard. I wanted to try to crate train her, but she has no problem eliminating in it. Does anyone have any advice?
I've been swatting up on housebreaking and have come across crating puppies to housetrain them. Has anyone used this technique - pros/cons or is using puppy bed and cleaning up accidents best for pup? Also what size should the crate be - I've bought one but I think it's too small personally - he can only just turn around in it - I'd be grateful for your views on this.
We got a daschund puppy about a month ago and we're having serious problems trying to housebreak him. We can take him outside and keep him out for up to 15 minutes at a time, yet he'll come in the house and do his thing on the carpet almost immediately after. It's getting to be a real pain cleaning the carpet every time we turn around! Any tips that might make housebreaking the little guy a little speedier process and a bit more effective perhaps?

I have a 14 week old female pug. We have started taking her out to go to the bathroom and use the phrase, "Potty Out" for it.
I know she is a bit young to start housebreaking, but we figured why not get a start.
How long does it normally take? I know every breed and every dog is different, but is there a general consensus on time frames?
Any other advice on it would be welcome too. We do use a crate also.

He is a Rednose pitbull, he's a really beautifu, sweet dog. Is crate training
(which we are planning to do) part of the housebreaking process? I am new to this, when last I had a dog this wasn't known to be good for a dog as it is now.
