When crate training a puppy, is it ok to let him sleep in bed with us?

   yes its ok but its not fine if you just want him to sleep inside until he i crate trained and then make him sleep outside your puppy will get used to sleeping inside so the best thing would be is to make him a house dog if u don’t want him to be a house dog then dont let him get used to sleeping in your bed hope this helps

   Technically, no. The crate is meant to be the safe harbor for sleeping. The experts claim having the dog sleep on your bed will make the dog feel like it’s Alpha dog.

   Speaking for myself, heck, let the dog sleep up on the bed. I can train him he’s not Alpha in other ways.

   It is never good to teach your dog to sleep on the furniture. Whether you are crate training or not. It sends out the wrong signals to your pet and can create problems for the future.
   Can you put his crate in you bedroom, he would probably still let you know that he wants to go out. You can leave the crate open so that he doesn’t feel cut off from you.
   You would be re-enforcing the use of the crate and reducing the confusing message that you are now sending him.

   I would think to make create training reliable the answer would be no. It may be confusing to him to have different rules- it may not be counterproductive, but may delay his realiabilty factor.

   I love my dog but the one rule we did not allow to be broken was sleeping on our bed. (We caved with the not allowed on the sofa, and other similiar rules)

   Remember, this puppy will grow up to be a dog (ours is 55 lbs now) and will shed in your bed, toss and turn and possibly snore just like a spouse. I for one did not need another one of those! lol

   Also, by allowing him to sleep in your bed, this becomes part of his "routine". What happens if you all go away on a vacation or other time where you can not bring you dog with you? He will be displaced enough not having you with him, but falling asleep will become almost impossible for him.

   Each to his own, but I like my bed to be MY bed- I can snuggle with him on the sofa, floor and anywhere else, but my bed is MINE.

   No it is not fine to let him sleep with you. The first time he pees or poos in your bed, you will be very upset and want to "kill" him (figure of speech). It would be your fault. He will whine and cry for about a week, then he will be used to sleeping in the crate. Stop letting him sleep with you.

   Don’t let him sleep in your bed! We did with our puppy and we can’t get him to sleep on the floor or in his own bed now. Plus, when your puppy grows you will have less space for yourself and your sleep will suffer. The best thing to do is stay firm. I can really recommend disposable puppy pads – they have a scent on them that supposedly attracts a dog to urinate there. If your puppy toilets off the pad tell him "No" in a firm voice then place him on the pad. When he uses the pad praise him and really go ‘over the top’. This way he will link going to the toilet there with getting lots of fuss. When your puppy has just eaten or just woken up take him outside to go to the toilet. Generally puppies go to the toilet immediately after doing these things. Once again, praise him a lot and really go ‘over the top’ – make it worth his while to go to the toilet where you say. Make sure you take him to the toilet before going to bed, then make it the first thing you do in the morning. I have also been told that if you are using a crate for your puppy then they will quickly learn that it is their bedroom, somewhere they feel safe, and will naturally want to toilet as far away from their crate as possible Just like us and our beds/toilets I suppose!

   i have a jack russell terrier, and she lets me know when she has to go potty whether if its number one or two, and i let her sleep with me everyday in my bed. now she follows me everywhere i go, they become more attached to you, but thats a good thing!

   go ahead dont worry, let him join you!
   although my dog did pee once in my bed but that was all my fault cause i didnt take her out, that wont happen with you.

   many people crate their dogs while at work or out but leave them out while home. This is how I trained my dogs.

    ur puppy sleeping in ur bed with u will likely build a stronger bond of love between u and ur little puppy. awwwwww… ♥

    I always let my dog sleep with me at night….but be consistent….don’t let him sleep with you whenever you feel like it. Dogs like the same routine.

    Personally, I would have him sleep in his crate until he is completely trained. Leave paper or something down in his crate until he is able to hold it all night which will happen about 4 months old. You don’t want him to get in the habit of waking you up to go outside. He will be doing this years down the road if you let him. My 7 month old puppy knows when it’s bed time just by my routine and she is in her crate waiting for me to give her a little treat, close the door, and pull the blanket down over the crate for her. That is her little piece of doggy heaven.
